LOGAN farmer Oscar Holt is the Loddon Shire’s Young Citizen of the Year.

The award was presented during Monday’s Australia Day ceremony in Wedderburn, recognising Oscar’s volunteer contributions to football and tennis in the district as player, administrator and fundraiser.

A senior player with Wedderburn Redbacks, Oscar said volunteering was an important part of country life.

“There are many people volunteering in the community and while I don’t think I do a lot compared with others, if what I do eases the load on them then that’s helping,” Oscar said. “Volunteering is also about making sure that young people in our community have the same good opportunities growing up that I have had.”

According to the award citation: “Oscar epitomises all that is best in our shire.”

Loddon Shire’s Citizen of the Year was awarded to Robyn Vella who has been a driving force behind the town’s annual gold jamboree, tourism and development projects and community and youth programs.

The ward citizen award was presented to Bruce Hargreaves.
