ST ARNAUD and Charlton weren’t the only towns rewarding their humble citizens on Monday.

Across the surrounding district, towns like Donald, Marnoo, Stuart Mill, Wycheproof and more celebrated those that have given so much in and around their communities.

Here’s some of the winners:

Wycheproof

JESSIE Fawcett was named Young Citizen of the Year.

Described as “undeniably reliable”, Ms Fawcett has had a few volunteer roles in her time, particularly on the sporting scene.

She has had her hand in helping with junior tennis coaching in Wycheproof, volunteering in the canteen at Saturday netball, catering and waitressing at netball functions, netball umpiring on a Saturday, just to name a few.

Ms Fawcett is also a staple in the Nullawil community, where she hails from.

She is often seen preparing food and setting up for Nullawil Senior Citizens events.

Ms Fawcett is also a hardworking member of the Wycheproof Youth Group, where she is often organising and running many activities for young ones across the community.

Nominators Christine McKersie and Claire Ison said they are proud to have her as part of the Wycheproof P-12 College community too.

“What does a student of this calibre do in a school? She lifts standards and challenges (by example) all around her, to do the same,” they said.

“Anyone who helps out to run anything within our community (especially the youth of our community like Jessie) should be thanked. That is what makes a lively community run well.”

Another Nullawil local turned Wycheproofite, and relative of Ms Fawcett’s, Lauren Thompson was rewarded for her hard work with Citizen of the Year.

Over several years, Mrs Thompson is possibly best known for her tireless work behind the scenes to support and guide the amalgamation of the two sporting clubs, leading to the establishment of the Calder United Lions.

As a member of the steering committee, Lauren played a critical role in navigating a complex and sensitive process that required strong leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.

She contributed significantly to key decisions including the selection of the new club name and mascot and was instrumental in developing the Calder United Lions Constitution, helping to create a strong governance framework for the club’s future.

“Lauren Thompson is an inspirational role model within the community through her selfless leadership, strong values, and ability to balance significant volunteer responsibilities alongside family life,” nominator Ricky Allan said.

“As a mother of three young boys, Lauren demonstrates the importance of giving back, community involvement, and leading by example, showing that active participation in community life is achievable even during the busiest stages of parenting.”

Donald

THE Donald pool was full of spirit on Monday morning as the town came together to celebrate its hard working people.

The Event of the Year award was presented to the Donald Lawn Tennis Club.

Angelique Donnellon was named Citizen of the Year.

Young Citizen of the Year was Glenn Pearse.

Birchip

EVENT of the Year – Birchip Harness Racing Club.

A proud local event that continues to bring people together every March long weekend. A huge effort from volunteers, organisers and supporters to deliver an event that showcases Birchip at its best.

Youth Citizen of the Year – Tylah Haslam

Tylah is a fantastic role model and a very deserving recipient.
