A ST Arnaud man could be facing jail time after weapons and drugs were found in his home during a raid earlier this month.

Police executed a search warrant on the 48-year-old’s home on North Western Road at around 10am on February 5.

The search came after an ongoing investigation into alleged firearm offences.

Officers seized firearm parts, ammunition and drugs of dependence during the raid.

Officers arrested the man at the scene.

Northern Grampians Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged him with firearms and drug-related offences.

The man has been bailed and is set to appear before the St Arnaud Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 9.

St Arnaud Water Treatment Plant Targeted in Burglary

Police are investigating a burglary at the St Arnaud Water Treatment Plant that occurred between January 30 and February 6.

During the incident, one or more offenders gained entry to the facility and stole property.

Damage was also caused to cabinets and water tanks on-site.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact the Police Assistance Line (PAL) on 131 444 or St Arnaud Police Station on 5495 1000.

Alternatively, anonymous reports can be made via Crime Stoppers Victoria online or by calling 1800 333 000.

St Arnaud Transfer Station Burglary Investigation

Police have interviewed two people in relation to a recent burglary at the St Arnaud Transfer

Station.

A 39-year-old St Arnaud man and a 33-year-old woman were interviewed by officers following the incident.

Fuel stolen from Winjallock property 

Police are investigating the theft of a quantity of fuel that was stolen from a truck with an unlocked fuel tank parked in a paddock on Barkly Gap Road in Winjallock overnight on February 12.

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or has relevant dash-cam footage is urged to contact their local station or the Victoria Police Assistance Line at 131 444.

Alternatively, confidential reports can be submitted through Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000.

Two Drivers Loose Licence

On February 7 at around 2:11pm, police were patrolling Banyena Road, St Arnaud North when they detected a vehicle driving toward them at 143km/h.

The 18-year-old female driver from St Arnaud who had held her probationary licence for less than a year was issued a penalty infringement notice for $865 and a six-month licence suspension.

The following day at around 9:34am, police saw a vehicle on Banyena Road, Avon Plains driving toward them at 145km/h.

The 39-year-old male driver from St Arnaud said that he was “running late” and alarmingly, had his partner and children in the car with him.

The man was issued with a penalty infringement notice for $865 and a six-month suspension of his drivers licence.

Speeding and Unlicensed on Kings Avenue

At approximately 5.44pm on February 6, St Arnaud police were patrolling Kings Avenue, St Arnaud when they allegedly observed a vehicle travelling toward them at 63km/h in the 50km/h zone.

The 24-year-old male driver was intercepted and when asked for his licence, he allegedly replied that he had never held a licence.

The male driver was interviewed for allegedly driving whilst unlicensed, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and driving at 63km/h in a 50km/h zone, and he will appear at St Arnaud magistrates court at a later date.

Police have noticed the increasing number of drivers who are speeding in the 50km/h zone on Kings Avenue, St Arnaud and will be issuing penalty infringement notices to those drivers who think it’s okay to speed in a residential area even if it’s a few kilometres above the limit. Over is over.
