Trip around the towns for Probus group
Charlton Commonwealth Bank Australia (CBA) branch manager Michelle Jenkyn gave an insightful speech around how banks are moving with the times and how scams are becoming more common.
IT WAS an action-packed month for the Wycheproof Probus Club, with a range of speakers and excursions to keep them on their feet.
Charlton Commonwealth Bank Australia (CBA) branch manager Michelle Jenkyn gave an insightful speech around how banks are moving with the times and how scams are becoming more common.
After being with the branch for almost 40 years, Ms Jenkyn a very broad-ranging presentation on some of her history and the modern operation of the CBA.
She gave some advice on how when you enter a bank to open account or conduct business, you need to have identification ready.
She advised how the CBA has implemented a system where the front counter staff can receive a person’s communication card which clarifies the best way of interaction with people who may have difficulties with some styles of communication.
You can pre-book a private space to interact with CBA staff. That they have other tools in a kit such as magnifiers, contrast lighting, languages other than English and more.
Ms Jenkyn then gave descriptions of how the CBA banks can help people with their budgeting. And that branch staff can be approached to facilitate this, and it will be carried out confidentially.
She said there are a few different methods for approaching this, being:-
Identifying essential services versus wants. Detailed ins and outs.
Bucket method of three categories – Needs, Wants and Savings.
She said there are now available computer, or phone apps that can guide, steer or schedule you to better saving practices.
Ms Jenkyn described how all CBA staff are trained to identify stress in customers, it is not an intrusive process, but merely having normal conversations and picking up little signals or alerts.
Michelle then described scams as people being tricked into giving money by others playing on people’s emotions, using threats, rushing people, penalties, or relationship manipulation with cold calls or long term activation.
She strongly urged that if it does not feel right – stop and desist. Make contact with your bank and get good advice.
Bus trip around the region
THE club enjoyed a tour around Charlton and surrounds, enjoying visits to the local museum and more.
“We were lucky enough to have Teys Australia Yeungroon office manager Terri Wolfe, to be our bus tour guide,”
Club publicity manager Martin Duke said.
“Terri has been working at the feedlot for over 20 years and has watched the Feedlot grow.
“The Probus visitors were very pleased to see the set out, the enormity of the operation, the
computerisation and the care being shown to the cattle.
Golden Grains Museum, Charlton president Diane Wood and Sue Walsh (member) gave a tour of the facility highlighting a lot of the history of particular items.
The Probus group were most impressed by the care shown to all the historical items, and appreciated the time provided as well as the work to maintain the museum.
Luncheon at the Cricket Club Hotel was a lovely finale with our host Greg Towers and Leanne Gretgrix. Greg played the guitar and sang happy birthday to adjoining clientele, who were celebrating.
Greg then went on to the Charlton Residential facility to sing to Mrs Mary Walklate who was celebrating her 100th birthday.
“It is so good to see and visit what we have in our area,” Mr Duke said.
