Tormey’s teal salute in big day for the ladies

The seven-year-old Betterthancheddar mare produced a career-best mile rate of 1:56.8, defeating James Garner, who sat outside the leader throughout, and Leon Fanning’s Fair Chance, who was unable to hold her position from barrier two and was forced to work before eventually finding the front.
Chogi enjoyed the perfect sit behind the leaders before rounding them up in the straight to score by a neck .
The other female drivers to taste success at Stawell were Kerryn Manning and eighteen-year-old Reagan Clarke.
At Maryborough on Wednesday, the Tormey stable added another winner when Dona Amalia captured one of the three trotting races on the programme.
With Ellen and Jack Tormey travelling to Mildura for evening engagements, James Herbertson took the reins and guided the $1.95 favourite to a narrow neck victory. Raced by John Tormey, Dona Amalia has now recorded ten career wins .
Herbertson also partnered the Youngson family’s Fremarks Peggy to victory at Maryborough, the mare now boasting two wins and three seconds from her past five starts .
At Mildura, the Alison Tormey-bred and Ellen Tormey-driven three-year-old filly Sweet Marion provided the stable with a third winner for the week. She outstayed the $1.65 favourite The Ninja, driven by Luke Dunne, to break her maiden by 1.1 metres.
