LAST week’s North Central midweek pennant bowls match saw St Arnaud Country Club travel to Donald Golf for the first game back after the Christmas break.
The Donald Golf greens played well, although a steady breeze again made conditions tricky throughout the day.
From the outset, Donald Golf settled quickly and applied consistent pressure, establishing control across all three rinks.
St Arnaud Country Club worked hard to stay in touch, but the home side continued to build momentum as the match progressed.
In the end, Donald Golf proved too strong, completing a clean sweep with victories on all three rinks to take the overall points.
The St Arnaud Bowls Club was also on the road to meet Donald.
Phil McRae’s team played Marg Kelly’s team. St Arnaud began well, leading 6–1 after six ends, before Donald scored 13 shots across the next seven ends to lead 14–7 at lunch.
St Arnaud lifted after the break, winning 8 of the remaining 12 ends, including a four, three and six on the 24th end, finishing 26–19 winners.
Terry McSwain’s team met Lindee Morgan’s team. Donald opened strongly with five shots on the first two ends before St Arnaud levelled to 9–5 after seven ends and 12–9 at lunch.
Donald pushed again after the break, extending the advantage to 16–9 on the 16th end.
St Arnaud won eight of the last nine ends but Donald held on to win 25–18.
Laurie Goodwin’s team faced Beryl Milnes’ team. St Arnaud managed only four winning ends before lunch and trailed 5–15.
The second half didn’t improve, with Donald controlling play and taking the rink 38–11.
