Lost in the Bush: On Saturday night at the Town Hall pictures a message was flashed across the screen calling for volunteers to search for a woman lost in the bush near Carapooee. Miss Grant a governess at Mr L McLean’s residence had gone for a walk and had not returned at teatime. Mr McLean drove his car about looking for her and when unable to find her contacted the police. A large number of men searched throughout the night in freezing temperatures without success. About five o’clock in the morning Alex Gunn was driving along a road near Emu Railway Station when he met the manager of McGowan’s property at Carapooee and was told Miss Grant had arrived at his home at 10 o’clock and was given a bed for the night, not realising a search party had been called. Miss Grant had walked around for five hours in darkness unable to find her way home, which was four miles away. In the next ‘Mercury’ published Miss Grant’s father thanked all those who had searched for his daughter and apologised for the trouble his daughter had caused.

Building Demolished.: Recently Mr F Bennett of Queen’s Avenue purchased a two-story wooden building adjoining the Town Hall and demolished it. He has sold the site to Mr A Brady who intends to make additions to the Town Hall Hotel, which includes a four-table billiard Parlor on the ground floor and fourteen bedrooms upstairs extending over the right of way plus extra bathrooms.
