Football: The St Arnaud v’s Birchip game did not start until 3-15 and was played in light rain and finished in darkness; the ground lighted by car lights. Scores, ¼ time St Arnaud 2-2 Birchip 2-4, ½ time St A 6-8 B 3-4, ¾ time St A 7-9 B 6-9, final score St A 8-14 defeated B 7-9. This is the first win for St Arnaud this season Best players for St Arnaud were Coleman, Millgate, Hill & Walton and the best players for Birchip were Hampton, & Connelly x 3. Twenty members of the Ladies Committee served afternoon tea and raised £8-4-9. While assisting the ladies to arrange the afternoon tea booth Mr R J Cooper injured his left hand when several trestles fell on his wrist. Mr Cooper [President] treated the Birchip team to the picture show at the Town Hall- Charlie Chapman. Donald 11-16 defeated Cope 5-5 and Watchem 6-8 defeated Litchfield 5-5. The junior match held before the main St Arnaud – Birchip game; St Arnaud South End 8-15 defeated St Arnaud North End 4-4. Goals kicked for South End – Fithall 4 Goltz 2 Knights & Rowe 1 each. Goals kicked for North End H Lardner, Ward, Harper & McKenzie 1 each.
Kara Kara Assoc – St Arnaud Rovers 9-12 defeated Swanwater 8-6 and Coonooer defeated Kooreh [no scores published].
Mountain Creek Assoc - Red Bank 13-7 defeated Landsborough 5-3.
Sales: Mrs J M Edwards sold the 2-story building known as “Kara Kara House’ opposite the Mercury Office in Napier st to auctioneer A F Cleary, who has been a tenant for several years, as has Mrs M McLean confectioner. Estate the late Mrs E Hunt sells three houses by auction to Mr F Bennett, Lot 1 – a W B dwelling of 4 rooms plus bathroom in Bowen st, adjoining Mr Mathison in Queens Ave for £150, Lot 2 – W B dwelling of 4 rooms, plus bathroom and small kitchen in Bowen st adjoining Lot 1 for £300, Lot 3 – W B dwelling of 4 rooms plus detached bathroom and kitchen in Raglan st and includes a vacant block on the southern side of Bowen and Raglan sts for £298-10-0.
High School Fair: The High School girls held a successful fair in the Town Hall and raised over £25 to purchase library books. The girls made all the items on the fancy goods stall and their mothers supplied the items for the sweet, cake and produce stalls. The girls in charge of the stalls were - cakes Una Benson £2/15/6, sweets Jean McIlroy £1/6/3, produce Ursula Wheeler and Sheila Proctor £4/15/4, fancy goods Amy Jeremiah £7/6/10, items for children Jessie Ritchie £1/8/8, afternoon tea Maude Giles and Maisie Rothwell £2/12/6.
Wedding: Miss Constance McKechnie married Captain James Manley is a small relatives only service on 18th June. Constance’s parents Mr & Mrs Raleigh McKechnie invited eighty guests to a party for the happy couple in the Town Hall the night before the wedding. Constance wore a blue velvet dress with gold lace, her mother a black lace frock with mauve trimming, her grandmother a black frock with a skunk fur wrap and her sister Miss Jean McKechnie a gold frock with green trimming.
