Weather: Rainfall during March – 25 points, making only 93 points so far this year. However during the first week of April a welcome 161 points fell over several days
Easter Tennis Tournament: There were 200 entries for the tournament with rain on Saturday and Monday interfering with the timetable and play extended into an extra day preventing many from remaining to witness the final, which was won by Mr W J Pepper of Ararat.
Other winners were - Mens’ A Grade W J Pepper, Men’s B Grade S P Bromfield, Men’s C Grade B Knights, Mixed Doubles S P Bromfield and Miss Graham, Ladies Singles Miss I Augustini, and Ladies Doubles Miss I Augustini and Miss M Ferries.
Hospital Report: During March there were 40 admissions, 43 discharged, 37 remaining at end of the month, 18 outpatients and 2 deaths Amy Weidemann and John Robertson.
Surgical work has been held up owing to the want of a satisfactory steriliser.
Hospital Sunday:The St Arnaud Band played in the Queen Mary Gardens after marching from the weighbridge with the Fire Brigade who took up the collection for the hospital during the afternoon, resulting in £160.
The Donald Band travelled to Swanwater where they raised £14-16-0 and then to Cope Cope where they collected £44 all for the St Arnaud Hospital.
Football: The Rovers Football Club, which was formed last year to compete in the Kara Kara Junior Association held its’ first annual meeting.
Elected - President W S Williams, Vice-Presidents George Johnson and J Hedger, Secretary Frank Manallack, Tresurer W Kennedy jnr, official gate keeper E Tracy, club colors red and black and membership 5/- .
Rifle Shooting: Conditions 14 shots at 600 yards – B Parker 68, A S Preece 64, L E Andrew 62, J Anderson 60 and W Pickthall 59.
Warning: Mr J H Jesse of Gre Gre North notifies that trespassers on Rabey’s Reserve St Arnaud North, with guns and dogs will be prosecuted.
Deaths: Mr Thomas Jeremiah a native of Carapooee and brother of Abraham Jeremiah was killed when his truck was struck by a train at a level crossing at Pakenham.
Thomas was age 47 and leaves a widow and eleven children.
Mr George Simpson of Paradise died suddenly from a heart attack leaving a widow and six children. Born at Dalkeith, Scotland he came to Victoria when age seven.
He lived at Stuart Mill and Barkly before settling at Paradise thirty years ago. George was known as a wool expert and a sound judge of sheep and was a member of the Navarre Turf Club.
Sale: Mr F Wandel has sold his orchard at Kooreh containing 9 acres orchard and a good homestead to Mr Alfred Phillips.
