SENIOR CHAMPS STAR: North Central Hockey teams take on state's best
Following a successful junior campaign last month, the pressure was on for the adults to come home with a few wins.
IT WAS another big weekend for North Central Hockey as their three treams competed for gold at the Senior Country Championships.
Following a successful junior campaign last month, the pressure was on for the adults to come home with a few wins.
And they got close.
NCHA president Brenton Henderson said there was a lot to be proud of, even if there was a mixed bag of results from the open women, open men and masters sides.
“Open women conceited their first game, zero to three to Central Victoria, the sole game held on Friday night.
“They did not lose another game, almost twenty-four hours later, our women defeated Sunraysia five to nil, followed by three draws and two wins. This secured them fifth place overall.
“Like the open women, our open men lost their first game to Central Victoria five to zero. Not to be perturbed, they won their next four games. It was a tough finish to their series with East Gippsland scoring the winning goal, at full time, on a penalty stroke denying them entry into the gold medal match.
“Men’s Masters (players aged 35 and over) were able to win their first game, only to lose their next four games, finishing sixth and being denied the opportunity to play for fifth place with the opposition withdrawing from this match.”
At the end of the weekend, the open men finished third overall, the women fifth and the masters sixth.
“Thank you to all players, coaches, officials, supporters and families for their contribution and for representing the NCHA with pride,” Mr Henderson said.
