Unfortunately for Wedderburn their junior numbers have dwindled, and there is a shortage of players in both Junior grades of the competition.

With that being said, their club is doing everything possible to still ensure what numbers they do have get to enjoy a Saturday run around on the park!

St. Arnaud were called upon to assist in helping make up some numbers, which gave us the opportunity for all players to have full games in both grades.

Quite often there is some banter when you get to lay a tackle on one of your best mates, or kick a goal for the opposition, and Saturday was no exception.

Our Under 13’s enjoyed another fast moving hard ball getting game, where even our smallest are seen at the bottoms of packs or snapping goals.

It has been an exciting start for this new looking side and their celebrations are just as entertaining to watch.

St. Arnaud maintained control of the game and came away with another 4 points.

Final Score St Arnaud 10 . 10 – 70 defeated Wedderburn 3 . 0 – 18.

Goals – Riley Winters 3, Forbes Kirk 3, Austin Lowe 2, Frankie Donald 1 & Archer Reyne 1.

Awards – Jack Batters Banavie Merino, Abby Weir Uniting Church Encouragement, Frankie Donald Parkview Bakery, Forbes Kirk St Arnaud Canteen, Ollie Hand Sonya’s Hair Directors and Otis Patton CropLands.

Coach, Hayden Torney was left with the hard task of selecting just 6 players for awards, making mention that all players had played some of their best football over the first 2 games and all very worthy of recognition.

Under 16s

The Under 16 side once again had great numbers and were able to provide Wedderburn with a few players every quarter.

It was a great contest to watch, giving our first year players the chance to match up against their team mates and feel comfortable enough to start to get hold of the ball a little more, this will help in weeks to come.

Solid games from our top agers and more experience for the younger ones saw a sea of goals, kicking 27 of the 29 goals total for both sides.

Final siren score St Arnaud 21 . 11 – 137 defeated Wedderburn 8 . 9 – 57

And also to Rory Bigmore, Tom Myers, Troy Anderson and Baxter Cheesman for contributing to St. Arnaud Reserves win, with another 4 Under 16’s putting their hands up to assist also if the numbers were required.

The development of our Juniors is paramount for the future of our club, and these displays of commitment is a telling sign that the future is bright.

Congratulations to all, on a successful club effort.

Please note Round 3, St. Arnaud V Wycheproof will be played at Lord Nelson Park, with no Under 16’s side, the day will begin a little later with Under 13’s kicking off at 11.10am.

We encourage all to get along and support the youngest of our community, and catch up with us later in the evening at our Football, Netball & Hockey Ball ‘Arabian Nights’!
