POLICE: Criminal incidents in St Arnaud almost double in year

Numbers from the Crime Statistics Agency of Victoria say there have been 291 incidents recorded in 2026 (for the year ending in March 2026), which is up from 152 last year.

ST Arnaud police are dealing with almost double the criminal incidents they were last year according to recent crime data.

Numbers from the Crime Statistics Agency of Victoria say there have been 291 incidents recorded in 2026 (for the year ending in March 2026), which is up from 152 last year. There have also been 383 offences recorded, up from 298 last year.

Numbers of other types of crime are also up in Northern Grampians as a whole, with total alleged offender incidents up 53.3 per cent, victim reports up 30.2 per cent and family violence incidents up 4.9 per cent.

The top five principal offence subdivisions recoded in the Northern Grampians area were assault and related offences, breaches of orders, theft, property damage and burglary/break and entering.

Victoria’s overall crime offence rate decreased 1.9 per cent.

CSA chief statistician Fiona Dowsley said: “For the first time since 2022, incidents alleged to be linked to youth offenders have decreased, with adults now responsible for 88 per cent of offender incidents. There has been a 10.8 per cent increase in adult offender incidents recorded over the last 12 months.”
