‘Out of towners’ take trots titles
Raced by John Kennedy, the winner, as its name suggests, is a four-year-old by Poster Boy from the former handy racemare Celebrindal who won eight races throughout her career.
THERE wasn’t any joy for the local trainers at Charlton on Sunday but they still ended up with quite a respectable tally for the week.
At Maryborough on Monday, the Michael Gadsden-trained debutante Posterman came from tenth at the 600m marker to win comfortably by 2.8m on the line after pacing its last half in 57.63 and gaining 15m on the leader in the last 400m.
Raced by John Kennedy, the winner, as its name suggests, is a four-year-old by Poster Boy from the former handy racemare Celebrindal who won eight races throughout her career.
She is a daughter of the late Bob Knight’s Group 2 winner Southern Sugar who won twelve races from her nineteen starts including the 1991 Sires Stakes Final for four-year-old mares.
Ballarat raced on Thursday and the John Tormey stable collected a double.
Katunga Express who was driven by Murchison concession driver Abby Sanderson and the Alison Tormey owned, Jack Laugher driven, trotter Karbine who had finished thereabouts at its recent starts.
The trot was over the 2200m trip and Karbine’s rate of 1.59.8 was a career best time and its fourth race win.
Friday it was Mildura again with a seven race programme of sixty-three horses with 80 per cent of them being trained in the Sunraysia area.
Unfortunately for the locals it was the “out of towners” who won six of the seven winners including two from the Charlton Training Centre.
In race three, Michael Gadsden and Luke Dunne combined to win their eighth race with Bizzness Class, taking his career tally to fourteen wins and twenty-three placings.
Then in race five Ears The Boss made it two wins in a row for trainer Tori Hutchins and driver Connor Clarke when it started favourite at $1.55 and won by 12.4m.
On Thursday night both Jack Laugher and Abby Sanderson both drove winners at Ballarat. On Friday they both drove in Mildura where the first race was at 1.18pm.
They were rewarded with a winner each.
The Inglewood owned trotter Blackrange Glory overcame an early hiccup to easily win the Beth Dillon Trot at Charlton on Sunday.
Trained and driven by Ararat’s Michael Bellman the seven-year-old son of Tennotrump is raced by Marie and Luke Ralph of Inglewood and won by 10.2m rating 2.00 for the 2100m race.
Bendigo race again tonight off the back of some great news the Club has received regarding upgrades to their track lighting and stable area.
In an interview with Paul Campbell, the HRV Head of racing Greg Gangle announced that with the backing of the State Government work will commence in early July. This will include an upgrade the track lighting with the aim of making it more energy efficient and hopefully delivering estimated dollar savings to the industry of between 30 and 40 per cent.
And that whilst that is being done, a roof will be put over the stabling area.
