APART from the three-day Interdominion Carnival that starts in Brisbane on Saturday night, the biggest happening in harness racing this week is the launching of the organisation’s new website.

The new platform was due to be launched on June 29.

Fortunately the address remains the same.

In early June the State Government introduced legislation to transition Harness Racing Victoria from a Statutory Authority to a Company Limited by a Guarantee. Assuming the Bill makes it way through Parliament the change will be completed no later than July 1, 2028.

It is claimed the change will allow HRV to have greater flexibility to innovate and commercialise without being bound by Government policies.

The new not-for-profit company will be governed by a board of directors appointed by the Racing Minister which going on previous appointments seems to defeat the purpose of separation from government control.

Horsham raced last Monday with the Youngson stable and J Herbertson combining to take out another trotters race, this time with Fremarks Peggy who has now won six races for the season along with eight placings.

The winners dam Maoris Got Muscle was bred by Bryan Healy and traces back to Sumthingaboutmaori who won thirty-one races for prizemoney of $461,499 from her seventy-five starts.

At Bendigo on Wednesday the Charlton trained pacers Watch Your Back and Sporting Rage repeated the result from Charlton the previous week by again running the quinella in the NR 45 to 50 class.

The winner is trained by Tori Hutchins and was driven by Luke Dunne while the runner-up was driven by J Herbertson for Mark Boyle.

Sporting Rage might get his chance at Charlton next Monday where there is a NR43 to 48 race programmed that Watch Your Back isn’t eligible for as he is now rated as a NR54.

Two races later Jane Snell’s mare Midnight Alibi won for the second week in row at only her third start for its new owner.

Going on its huge run at Horsham when it ran second Jane’s other pacer El Lazzar, who she races with Les Mason, should soon be in the winners circle.

Whilst Mick Gadsden headed for Melton on Friday with Hungry Hogarth fellow Charlton driver Connor Clarke took Megawatts to Mildura coming away with a win for the mare’s owners Emily Wombwell and W and L Spencer.

Megawatts was having only her second start for the new owners and despite breaking at the start proved much too good for the opposition winning by 6.7m at the end of the 2190m event. That win was the first leg of a double for Connor who won the next race for Irymple trainer Cassandra O’Brien.

Next Monday, the sixth, Charlton have their US Independence Day meeting and the following night they race at Echuca.
