ANOTHER supporter has joined Charlton CFA’s fight for a new fire station.

Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has urged the Minister for Emergency Services to commit funding for a new fire station for the Charlton CFA brigade in the 2026/27 state budget.

The brigade recently celebrated their fire station turning 95 years old, but the milestone was also a painful reminder that they are still waiting for a new fit-for-purpose fire station.

In 2021, the brigade was fortunate to receive a new tanker, but it’s too large to fit in the old station and has to be housed almost 500m away.

“This impacts readiness and turnout times, where seconds matter,” Ms Lovell said.

“The Minister for Emergency Services must provide funding in this May’s state budget for a new fire station for Charlton CFA that can house the tanker and provide amenities for the growing volunteer group that includes women who need appropriate change rooms.” Four years ago, land was purchased for a new purpose-built station, but since then nothing has been done to move the project forward.

Frustrations boiled over late last year when Captain Craig Walsh told the NCN Herald of the brigade’s fight.

Buloke Shire Council has written to the State Government seeking funding for the development of the station, and Ms Lovell spoke in parliament this week to support their call for this vital investment.
