Local libraries take turn to raise funds for cancer services

NORTHERN Grampians’ St Arnaud Library was a hive of activity recently, all for a good cause.
The library hosted an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser on May 20.
Northern Grampians Shire mayor Karen Hyslop said the events have become popular dates on the library calendar. “The money raised helps to fund life-saving support for the almost one in two Australians impacted by cancer,” she said.
“Our libraries have raised more than $6000 for the Cancer Council over the years, which is a wonderful effort.
“It’s a fantastic cause and one close to many people’s hearts.
“Stawell Library will be hosting a Biggest Morning Tea for the 28th year and has local regulars, such as Max and Val Kennedy, who have attended every year without fail.”
Entry to both events was by gold coin donation, with money raised going to Cancer Council Australia.
Almost one in two Australians are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85.
That’s why the Cancer Council created the event 33 years ago and since then has raised almost $240 million for cancer research, prevention programs, and support services for patients and their families.
