With growing worry around the region, the St Arnaud branch of the Victorian Farmer’s Federation (VFF) has invited two professionals to a community meeting on April 9.
A Melbourne lawyer, who specialises in land acqusitions, will help answer questions around what rights landowners have when VicGrid approach private property for entry.
VFF’s Colin Coates said people with growing concerns were being heard.
“As the fuel crisis in Australia deepens the impact is starting to effect all aspects of the economy and the way we live,” he said.
“Landowner rights is a subject which not only adds stress to communities, but as farmers who are already dealing with the risks of markets, supply of goods and the weather it has become an added burden enforced by Government decisions which can become a mental health issue.
"To understand the landowner rights in this imposed situation, attendance is highly recommended regarding one’s relevance and actions in response need to be clear and understood.”
The other speaker is a Melbourne barrister who will provide information around the First Nation’s Treaty.
“The assembly or committee-style board will oversee all State Governments decisions which will have influence on the primary production of our state of Victoria,” Mr Coates said. “We will have VFF chief executive Charlie Thomas and other senior executives in attendance. Come along to understand your rights.”
The event is at St Arnaud Sporting Club from 5.30pm. RSVP to Mr Coates on 0427 693 329 or Barry Batters on 0418 567 674.
