Anzac Day in Wyche

YOU’RE invited to find out more about Anzac history.

In August 1918, 25 Wycheproof and district families planted Currajong trees on Mount Wycheproof as a memorial to their young men who lost their lives during WW1.

The war was still ongoing and many more lives were lost after this date.

The Wycheproof cenotaph was erected in 1922 and this memorial avenue of Currajong trees became forgotten.

Sixteen of the original trees remain and the missing ones have now been replaced.

After the 2026 ANZAC service at Centenary Park Wycheproof everyone is invited to attend a BBQ lunch on Mount Wycheproof and the opening of a sign at the avenue of Currajong trees.

The service will begin at 11am on April 25.

There will be a free bus shuttle to and from the top of Mt Wycheproof after the Anzac service.

Daylight savings ends

IT’S almost time to turn the clocks back and enjoy an extra hour of sleep.

Daylight saving will end in Victoria this Sunday, April 5.

When local time reaches 3am, clocks will be turned back to 2am.

Daylight savings will then pick back up again on Sunday, October 4.

Council needs feedback

CENTRAL Goldfields Shire Council is inviting Bealiba residents to provide feedback on its Draft Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) 2026–2029.

Between August and September last year, 90 community members shared their views through surveys and in-person feedback sessions, helping to shape the draft Plan.

Through this process community shared with us concerns around responsible pet ownership, particularly relating to roaming cats and dogs.

In response, Council has developed a draft Plan that aims to address these issues while supporting a safe, respectful, and balanced community for both pet owners and non-pet owners.

Feedback is open until 5pm on April 23 and can be submitted via council’s website.

Pet safety this Easter

THERE are a number of things pets should avoid this Easter.

Chocolate, hot cross buns (raisins/sultanas), xylitol-sweetened treats, alcohol, and fatty table scraps should be kept out of reach, as these are highly toxic. Avoid bringing lillies home as they are toxic to cats and don’t let them eat plastic grass or toys as they may choke.

Contact your nearest emergency vet for help.
