New measles case

FOUR new measles cases in Victoria in the past week - all in unvaccinated people - have prompted a warning for the community to check their vaccination status. One of these cases has spent time in the Loddon Mallee region.

The Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit (LMPHU) is reminding the community measles is one of the most contagious diseases in the world and can spread quickly where vaccination coverage is incomplete.

Symptoms of measles may initially include fever, cough, runny nose, and sore eyes before the appearance of a red rash a few days later, which usually starts on the face before spreading.

Anyone who develops symptoms, particularly after travel, should seek medical advice and call ahead before attending a healthcare service.

Upcoming Census

CENSUS night is less than 100 days away.

It is also used to help plan local services for individuals, families and communities.
