Impressive performances has tennis teams gathering pace

ALL North Central Lawn Tennis Association teams travelled to St Arnaud on Saturday for the competition’s Gather Round, with matches played across the town’s courts in front of strong local support
Kara Kara produced an impressive all-round performance to record a convincing 131–64 victory over Nullawil.
The home side built the foundation of its win in the men’s section, finishing with a dominant 48–9 advantage.
The combinations of Will Jackson, Luke Jackson and Steve Rodger proved difficult to contain, while Thomas Watts, Bruce Hando and Ben Greenway also combined effectively to collect valuable points.
The ladies’ matches were more competitive, but Kara Kara still finished ahead 41–35. Aimee Jones, Sharyn Erwin and Holly Fawcett worked well together to secure important sets, while Kim Nevill, Sophie Male and Johanna Medlyn also contributed to the team’s tally.
Kara Kara continued their momentum in the mixed doubles, winning the section 42–20.
Pairings including Will Jackson and Aimee Jones, Steve Rodger and Sharyn Erwin, Luke Jackson and Holly Fawcett, Thomas Watts and Kim Nevill, and Bruce Hando and Sophie Male all recorded strong results to close out a comprehensive team performance.
St Arnaud also enjoyed a strong afternoon on their home courts, defeating Charlton 146–108 in an impressive display.
The Saints set the tone early in the men’s section, compiling a 52–35 advantage.
The pairings of Sam Male and Jake Male, Jason Rowe and Bailey Durward, and Ned Jackson and Matthew Goode were influential, collecting key points across their matches.
St Arnaud maintained their momentum in the ladies’ contests, finishing ahead 47–38.
Rogan Hando and Alex Baldwin combined well for two strong wins, while Deb Borg, Keegan Amos and Andrea Johns formed a formidable trio, sweeping their matches to add crucial points.
The Saints capped off the day with another solid performance in the mixed doubles, again outscoring Charlton 47–35.
Partnerships featuring Bailey Durward and Caitlyn Goode, Ned Jackson and Deb Borg, and Matthew Goode and Andrea Johns were among the standout contributors as St Arnaud completed a well-rounded team victory.
The St Arnaud teams’ wins set up a tilt for flag honours over the next fortnight.
