CHARLTON Park was almost as busy as it’s been on past Grand Final days on Saturday, but for just as exciting a reason as that.

There wasn’t a single spot around the ground at 9.30am when crowds rushed to secure their spot to see a number of ex-AFL players take to the field in the navy blue - including one Dane Swan.

The ex-Collingwood great and Brownlow medalist spent a few nights in town and more than boosted spirits at a time when the Navy Blues needed it most.

While the loss of a champion and dedicated Charlton netball great Carmel Fitzpatrick and a senior side without a win to its name hanging over the day, Swan’s presence was something of a small bit of joy.

Fans stopped Swan at every opportunity they could get, with the 258 AFL-gamer gave as much time his could to his supporters, even at quarter time.

And while his presence may not have brought a win, it did add some positivity the town needed.
