BULOKE Shire Council has appointed Daniel McLoughlan as its new chief executive officer.

Mr McLoughlan has been serving as Interim CEO since September 2025, providing what council believes to be stability during a period of transition.

"His permanent appointment recognises his proven capability, deep community ties and unwavering commitment to the Buloke region," said Buloke Shire Council mayor Alan Getley.

A Birchip local, Mr McLoughlan returned to the district in 2012, and following six years at the helm of the family business, has since dedicated his career to public service within the shire.

In accepting the role, he said it is a privilege to serve the Buloke community.

"I am excited by the opportunity to lead a high performing, engaged team in a community I know well and care deeply about,” Mr McLoughlan said.

"While broader government narratives may suggest our communities are fading, I believe Buloke’s future is bright. With strong leadership, strategic partnerships, and community collaboration, we can continue to build a resilient and thriving region."

Mr McLoughlan has held key leadership roles at council, including Infrastructure and Delivery director, Assets and Flood Recovery senior manager during the October 2022 event — where his deep community insight was instrumental in coordinating the Shire’s recovery efforts.

Beyond council, Mr McLoughan has always been an active contributor to community life through the Birchip Forum and as a passionate supporter of the Birchip-Watchem Football Club, where he’s well-known for his hands-on involvement as a volunteer, fulfilling the role of match day secretary.

“Council is very pleased to appoint Daniel. We believe he has demonstrated authentic leadership, sound judgement during his council tenure as well as an enduring passion for our communities," Cr Getley said.

"His local knowledge and ability to engage with staff and residents make him an outstanding choice to lead Buloke into the future."
