THE Saints delivered a commanding performance in their Round 1 Reserves clash against the Navies, powering to a 21.9 (135) to 1.1 (7) victory on the back of sustained pressure across all four quarters.

Charlton struck first through Jac Boyles early in the opening term, but it would prove to be their only major of the afternoon.

From that point on, the Saints took control, piling on the next four goals to establish a 20-point advantage at the first break.

The visitors’ dominance continued in the second quarter, adding six goals without reply to extend their lead to 58 points at half time.

Jarryd Kell and William Jackson were particularly influential inside 50, capitalising on repeated forward entries as St Arnaud’s midfield gained the upper hand.

While the Saints’ forwards were clinical, their defensive structure was equally important. Matthew Goode, Daniel Gifford and Josh Hicks were outstanding across half-back, consistently mopping up opposition attacks and launching repeated counter-attacks.

Their composure behind the ball ensured Charlton struggled to gain any sustained forward momentum.

The Saints showed no sign of slowing in the third term, adding another seven goals. Kell continued his impressive display with multiple majors, while Simon Elliott chimed in with three goals of his own as the margin pushed beyond 100 points at the final change.

St Arnaud finished strongly with four final-term goals to cap a polished team performance.

Kell was the standout forward on the ground, finishing with nine goals in a best-on-ground showing. Jackson added six majors, while Elliott (three goals) and Hayden Torney (two) were also key contributors.
