The loss ended a three-game winning streak for Boort, which finished fourth last year. Max Cahoon kicked eight goals for Sea Lake in a season in which he is feasting on the lower teams and leads the goalkicking table with 45.
He has kicked 12 against winless Charlton, and eight against St Arnaud, Donald and now Boort but only nine goals in his other five games, including hauls of three and four against Boort in the first round of matches and Birchip Watchem respectively.
Cahoon scored only one goal against top of the ladder Wedderburn and the Bulls when they met for second time, and he was goalless against Calder United.
The Tigers will need him to step up more consistently against the better sides if they are to win the flag.
Co-coach Boyd Bailey continued his excellent season with a best-afield performance for Sea Lake, while fly-in player Jonathan Lanyon was best for the Magpies.
The loss sees Boort six points behind Birchip Watchem, and four points behind fifth-placed St Arnaud with the further problem of a 31 per cent gap to the Saints.
After the bye, the Magpies have a must-win clash with Calder United, while the Tigers travel to St Arnaud.
