Sea Lake were the first to hit the scoreboard within the first minute but St Arnaud put plenty of forward pressure on and were able to respond with a goal of their own.
The tight tussel continued right through the first quarter with scores level 13 a piece.
Clean, free flowing play was hard to come by as the paddock next door blew dust and it started to sprinkle with rain during the second quarter. The Saints finished in front 4.3-27 to 3.2-20.
As the players called out ‘third quarter’s premiership quarter’ they took to the field after half time knowing it was going to be tough and tight to the end.
But while the Saints hit the goal post, Sea Lake were able to add two goals to their tally. Saints clawed their way back to lead at three quarter time by 18 points.
Sea Lake came out firing at the start of the last quarter but St Arnaud rallied and held on to a 10 point lead to have now won the first three games of the season.
