Each win a sure thing

IT IS said that only two things in life are guaranteed, death and taxes.

However, from recent results, a weekly winner from the Youngson stable could almost make it three things.

This week’s winner from the Berrimal stable was indeed a quinella in the Concession Drivers Trot at Ballarat on Thursday.

It was here that Champagnes, driven by Hannah Parish, led all the way from barrier five to defeat stablemate Betsy Anne who was driven by Olivia Jardine.

For Champagnes, an eight-year-old mare by Bacardi Lindy, the win was the thirteenth of her career and her fourth this season.

For the driver of the second horse the irony of coming second to Champagnes is that in July 2025, the winner gave Olivia her first racetrack success in a concession drivers race at Maryborough.

The prospects of success at Swan Hill on Friday didn’t look too good early on with Nick Youngson’s pacer Esperanza running second, beaten a neck, after starting favourite at $1.50.

The McNaulty’s first starter, Youve Been Served, being beaten a short-half- head into second place in race three.

The Charlton stable of Stephen and Connor Clarke changed things around winning race fourwith Woodville Flyer making it two wins in a row for owner Kerrie Hymers.

Third placing in that race went to another Charlton trained pacer Don Crunch who had to be restrained to the rear after being caught wide early and then only got beaten by 1.8m after pacing its last half in 56.75 seconds.

Connor made it a double for the day when he won on the Mick Gadsden trained Megawatts.

That would make it three wins from its past four starts for the trainer and the owners Emily Wombwell and Neil and Lyn Spencer.

This coming week, Mildura is on Friday and Maryborough race on the following Monday.
