Doing it for Maddi: Chloe’s big shave

“It’s crazy because just before she was diagnosed, she had just completed a month bike ride where she would do a certain amount of kilometers a day for Peter Mac,” Ms Walsh said.

CHLOE Walsh is making the most of her lucious locks with bright and vibrant colours.

Because next month, they won’t be there anymore.

But she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Ms Walsh is dedicating her second big shave fundraiser to close friend Maddi Fitzpatrick, who the Charlton community lost to cancer in 2024.

“It’s crazy because just before she was diagnosed, she had just completed a month bike ride where she would do a certain amount of kilometers a day for Peter Mac,” Ms Walsh said.

“It’s crazy that she had just done that, was then diagnosed with cancer and had to use Peter Mac services herself

“It was something that meant a lot to her, so now it’s something I want to take on, I’m doing it for Maddi.”

Ms Walsh said she started planning the fundraiser at the end of last year.

“I just thought because I’m in a position to shave my head, why not turn it into a fundraiser,” she said.

“Cancer is something that touches so many people’s lives and it means a lot to me.

“I’ve seen my Pa go through it all so it’s important for me to be able to give back.”

Ms Walsh said she was enjoying experimenting with her hair colours and styles in the lead up to the shave on February 7.

“It’s such a good conversation starter too,” she said.

“I was literally at my job at the Wedderburn Hotel the other night and I had this bright pink hair.

“Someone asked me about it, why I’d done it and I was able to tell them about the fundraiser, about Maddi and everything.

“It’s a great way to raise awareness for the cause, plus I won’t be able to do it much longer so may as well make the most of longer hair.”

Ms Walsh is hoping her event at the Vale of Avoca will be a nod back to her first shave fundraiser back in July 2023.

“Maddi was actually involved and we were some of about 30 people who took part at the footy club that night,” she said.

“We got up on stage and just did it, took the plunge.”

Ms Walsh is hoping to add to her current $2,300 she’s already raised through raffles at the event itself.

The event will take place on February 7 at the Vale of Avoca in Charlton from 6pm.
