Creating a safe space to learn
“We wanted to utilise the space at the Raillery Hub Gallery to create somewhere comfortable for people to learn and grow.”
THERE’S a group in St Arnaud that want people to feel safe and supported in their journey to learning new things.
And that learning to read, write or use technology in adulthood aren’t things to be embarrassed by.
That’s where the More Than Words Collective comes in - to support people through that.
“Sometimes learning to be creative can be really scary," co-founder Tania Smith said.
“We wanted to utilise the space at the Raillery Hub Gallery to create somewhere comfortable for people to learn and grow.”
The More Than Words program will provide a welcoming, supportive learning space for community members who experience literacy challenges.
“We offer small group and one-to-one sessions focused on improving everyday reading, writing, communication and digital skills,” Mrs Smith said. “Participants will work towards personal goals such as reading forms, writing emails, improving confidence with technology, or developing creative writing skills.
Sessions will use practical activities, books, worksheets and digital tools in a relaxed, non-judgemental environment.”
