Country Club bows out of bowls finals

ST ARNAUD Country Club has bowed out of the race for North Central bowls’ Division 2 premiership after a loss to Wedderburn in last Saturday’s preliminary final.
Country lost 71-57, winning one of the three rinks, after its narrow win over local rivals St Arnaud in the first semi-final a week earlier.
Denis Goode’s rink was the successful team, beating their rivals 26-20 after leading throughout at St Arnaud’s home green.
The luck of the draw has favoured Wedderburn in Division 2, with the team to play Saturday’s grand final against Wycheproof on its home green – thanks to its Division 1 team losing its preliminary final.
Division 1 results determine where grand finals will be played, with no team allowed home green advantage, with Division 2 deciders played at the same venue.
The Division 1 grand final will see Donald Golf and Wycheproof battling for the premiership.
Wyche beat Wedderburn 78-53 and will seek revenge against Donald Golf after a 25-shot loss in the second semi-final.
Heavenly shades of night were falling as St Arnaud Bowling Club hosted another enjoyable evening of twilight bowls last Thursday, with conditions as good as players have experienced all season.
Ten teams of triples and pairs took to the green for 10 ends, producing several tightly fought contests — with one clear standout performance.
Terry McSwain and Chris Batters dominated their match, winning eight of the 10 ends on their way to a 10-shot victory, earning themselves the Country Kitchen pizzas on offer for the night.
Runners-up were Brian Eccles, Damian Yole and Michael Bearder, who claimed a four-shot win and were rewarded with complimentary drinks for their efforts. The final twilight bowls evening for the season will be held tomorrow.
