DON Costa couldn’t think of anything better than meeting people from different communities who have come out to see him perform.

That’s why he loves touring regional centres, including St Arnaud.

The country singer will be making another trip south from his home in Robinvale to perform in town this weekend.

“Performing in towns like St Arnaud just gives me a thrill he said.

“Meeting people out in regional communities is something else, you just can’t beat it.”

Inspired by his idols like Johnny Cash and Alan Jackson, Mr Costa has spent decades sharing his love of country music with crowds across the country. And it’s resonated.

Mr Costa was inducted into the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2018, placing his hands in cement at the Hands of Fame Park in Tamworth.

But for him, it’s always about doing what he loves - performing.

“I thoroughly enjoy what I do,” Mr Costa said.

“I’m like a kid with a new toy every time I perform.”

Mr Costa has been a part of the St Arnaud Country Music Club for 25 years, a group that loves having him a part of.

“We love having him in town,” Club president Lyn Torney said.

“He is always very enthusiastic in regards to anything country music.”

The Club is now in it’s 21st year of organising monthly events in St Arnaud, something Ms Torney said is not as common in other clubs across the state.

“While other clubs are folding, we are going from strength to strength with people travelling from as far as Ballarat and Horsham, Warramnbool as well as many locals,” she said. “We generally have our year booked ahead with quality artists, each bringing different genre’s of music.”

Mr Costa is performing at the St Arnaud Sporting Club this Sunday from 6pm. Entry is $6 for members, $8 for non members.
