Community spirit shines at Buloke awards
THERE were more awards handed out for Community Event of the Year and Citizen of the Year at the Buloke event on Thursday night.
THERE were more awards handed out for Community Event of the Year and Citizen of the Year at the Buloke event on Thursday night.
The announcements were met with applause and whoops from the crowd as their communities were represented.
Citizen of the Year
JENNY Newell has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to Sea Lake and the wider Buloke Shire.
Since joining Advance Sea Lake Inc in 2020 and becoming Chairperson in 2022, Ms Newell has been a driving force behind projects that have strengthened the community, enhanced tourism, and improved local infrastructure.
She was instrumental in delivering the Silo Night Activation, ensuring Sea Lake and surrounding towns are showcased in a way that attracts visitors and supports the local economy.
Ms Newell has also played a key role in the development of Lake Tyrrell.
She has also led the Sea Lake Streetscape Project, improving the town’s appearance and amenity, and continues to champion beautification and heritage projects.
Community Event of the Year
ORIGINALLY built in 1925 as the matrimonial home of Henry and Rita Bennett.
The event, held on 17 August, showcased what can be achieved by a dedicated and passionate group of volunteers committed to preserving and sharing Nullawil’s rich local history.
The celebration brought together the Nullawil community and surrounding districts, with many locals contributing their time and skills to ensure the day ran smoothly and guests were warmly welcomed to celebrate the town’s history.
