Cold weather doesn’t take away from course
A BIG week at St Arnaud Golf Club started on Thursday with eight brave golfers resisting the cold.

John Goode held off Arnold Bond to win by one with 18 points.
Saturday saw 16 golfers contest a stableford round.
A grade winner was Jimmy Coloe with 39 points from Will Jackson on 36.
B grade winner of the St Arnaud Physio best score of the day was new club vice president Charlie Ferguson with 41 points, five ahead of Luke Jackson on 36.
Nearest the pins were Ivan Jackson on the 6th and 10th, Lindsay Baldock on the 8th and Tony Coloe on the Weirs IGA sponsored 18th.
It was tough day for the fathers in the knockout matches played.
Coloe and Ivan Jackson both suffered defeats from their sons.
Coloe and John Nevill could not use their 57 years more experience against young Jimmy Coloe and Daniel Needs to go down 7/5 in a heavy loss.
Luke Jackson held off Ivan the senior Jackson to win 3/1.
In the other 4BBB match Charlie Ferguson and John Goode were far too good for Lindsay Baldock and Rob Harvey to win 5/3.
Sunday was the first round of the club championships with 24 players in contention.Winner in A grade with a fine round of 77/8/69 was Tubby Drendel,with Craig Burn runnerup with 70/0/70.
Bill Rodger and Jake Male tied for third on 71 net.
B grade winner and best score of the day was Lindsay Baldock with a very impressive 83/16/67 five shots ahead of Sam Postlethwaite on 88/16/72 and Ivan Jackson 3rd with 89/16/73.
Nearest the pins were Trevor Stewart on the 6th, David Lanyon on the 8th and 18th and Sam Postlethwaite on the long 10th.
One match was played in singles knockout with Will Jackson adding to club president Coloe’s dismal weekend by sending him packing on the 16th.
Leaders after the first round of the championships are in A grade Craig Burn six shots ahead of Scott Wright and Bill Rodger.
B grade leader is Lindsay Baldock five shots ahead of Sam Postlethwaite and six ahead of Ivan Jackson.
C grade leader is Trevor McDonald one shot ahead Trevor Stewart with Charlie Ferguson two shots further back.
Next week is a stableford round with the second round of the championships the following weekend on a Sunday.
