Cold start at Country Club for golf season beginning
Recent improvements include much needed drainage, new steps and bridge adjacent to the 12th hole, plus fencing on the 10th and 14th tees thanks to a bequest from the estate of former member John Proctor.
THE opening of the St Arnaud Country Club Golf season was held in cold wintry conditions on Saturday.
The course was well prepared due to the hard work of volunteers over many months.
The recent rains have resulted in a tinge of green to the course.
Recent improvements include much needed drainage, new steps and bridge adjacent to the 12th hole, plus fencing on the 10th and 14th tees thanks to a bequest from the estate of former member John Proctor.
Nineteen players were sent out to play an 18 holes stableford event after Vice president Marilyn Knights declared the 2026 season open.
This number was pleasing due to the number of other activities on in the town.
Results
MEN’s Div 1: winner Lindsay Baldock 35 pts, runner-up Dave Lanyon on a count back from Tubby Drendel.
Div 2: Charlie Ferguson 33pts on a count back from Bill Knights.
N.T.Ps: 6th Dave Lanyon, 8th Mark Sloan, 18th IGA voucher John Goode.
Ladies: winner Marilyn Knights 35 pts, runner Brenda Proctor 28. NTPs. - 6th Alison Fahey, 8th IGA voucher Brenda Proctor, 18th Bernice Fithall.
Marilyn was declared overall winner of the day after a count back from Lindsay.
The ladies calendar will commence on Wednesday with a nine hole stableford event.
The Nine@9 event will start on Thursday. Everyone welcome.
