Golfers Prepare: The rain during the Easter holidays has brought the grass on amazingly – it almost can be seen growing.

A number of golf enthusiasts have been out, while there is a general preparing of paraphernalia for the coming season which promises to be a record.

The course is being put in order: meantime golfers are assiduously practising their “swing” in the back yard.

Harriers a Live Body: For the Sports Carnival on April 21 entries from local harriers total 21, a most satisfactory result for the enthusiastic Mr Foxwell.

There will also be competing harriers from Glenhuntly, Geelong and Caulfield. The all-round amateur champion, Gus Kroger (Geelong) will compete, and should prove a centre of interest to Charlton runners, who may learn a good deal by watching the champion.

At the meeting Charlton harriers are requested to wear their club’s colors. For the high jump event, Mr J. Foxwell has donated a sports bag as a trophy.

Granite Flat: The Annual Schools Picnic held at Granite Flat was a great success. The weather was delightful. Three schools combined – Granite Flat, Jeffcott North and Teddywaddy West.

The teachers, Mr T. McConville, Miss Taylor and Miss Qualtrough, with the assistance of Rev. A.G. Day worked hard to make the gathering a success.

Children’s races, young men’s races, football, tennis, and cricket made the time pass merrily until five o’clock, when a splendid tea was enjoyed by all.

After tea games were played and then the children were handed a bag of lollies and all wended their way home.

Valuable Rain: After a spell of dry weather extending over some months, there has been a break up of the drought.

On Easter Saturday light rain fell, 18 points being registered.

This was followed by heavy rain, 85 points being recorded.

It continued to rain during the greater part of Easter Monday, 187 points being registered, making a total of 290 points.

The rainfall for the past three months is as follows:- January, 13 points; February, 5 points; March, 33 points; April (to 6 th ), 290 points.

Bowls: At the Champion of Champions for the North -Western Bowling Association, played at Donald.

Charlton’s champion, Mr G. Day, scored a good win over Wycheproof’s representative Mr A. Dillon, whom he defeated by 7 points.

The game throughout was evenly contested and provided the best exhibition of bowling ever seen on the Donald green.

Orange Blossoms: On 25th March, at the residence of her parents, Mr and Mrs W.J. Facey – Miss Ruby Facey was married to Mr Rod Chalmers, of Mysia.

The bride was given away by her father, and was attended by her sister, Miss Evelyne Facey, while Mr Arthur Chalmers performed the duties if best man.

For both the ceremony and the honeymoon journey the bride was modestly attired in cinnamon georgette and brown jumper suit respectively.

At the breakfast the Rev. W. Evans made reference to the honorable family associations of the parties.
