ST ARNAUD Country Club and Wedderburn face a season-defining clash when North Central bowls returns on Saturday.

The weekend pennant Division 1 teams are third and fourth on the ladder respectively, with four consecutive defeats seeing Wedderburn tumble from unbeaten in top spot to the cusp of dropping out of the top four.

Wedderburn had a spectacular opening to the season before slumping in the month before Christmas.

Saturday’s match will be played on the St Arnaud Country rinks with the home side bouyed after getting home by three shots against St Arnaud in the final encounter of the year.

That loss dashed St Arnaud’s hopes of making the finals this season.

But another slip or two by Wedderburn would open the door for the Saints.

A win by Country on Saturday, would see it pushing for a top two fnished.

Only four rounds remain before the finals, so the pressure in on both sides.

In Division 2, the two clubs are also in for a tight tussle with St Arnaud Country just one win and two points behind Wedderburn on the ladder.

St Arnaud Club also has St Arnaud within shot of dislodging it from fourth spot, the Saints holding a narrow edge with percentage although six points in arrears.

Midweek pennant resumed from the break yesterday.

Second placed Charlton was meeting St Arnaud Country while St Arnaud, hoping to retain fourth spot on the ladder, was up against Wedderburn.

North Central association ladies and men’s singles and triples are scheduled over the next week.
