AT THE MOVIES: Real rowdy comedy coming to the Rex
Take a look at what's on in both cinemas this weekend.

IT’S a jungle adventure at The Rex Theatre Charlton this weekend starring the big, boisterous Jack Black in a larger-than-life remake of the movie “Anaconda”.
Black, along with actor, Paul Rudd are the two characters – “Doug” and “Griff” – whose passion for the 1997 reptile movie about a giant snake (the original “Anaconda”) feeds their fixation as they decide to create their own version.
Having held this as a dream for years, a midlife crisis pushes the pair to finally go for it, and they assemble a crew to head deep into the jungles of the Amazon to start filming.
However, life soon imitates art when a gigantic anaconda with a thirst for blood starts hunting them down.
While the team have already set themselves up with a snake handler and a river boat - plus a hired reptile - their substitute accidently gets lost after filming starts. One can imagine the ensuing mayhem! It’s not long before they discover that there are actually extremely big snakes to replace their escapee!
The movie focuses on parodying the original ‘90’s version, with reviewers emphasizing the laugh-out-loud nature of the film.
Featuring the comedic talents of Black, Rudd and Steve Zahn, “Anaconda” (which was filmed in Queensland) is an undemanding movie geared towards light-hearted audience entertainment.
“Anaconda” (M 100 minutes) screens at The Rex on Saturday at 8pm, Sunday from 2pm and Tuesday, February 10 at 8pm.
Sing the night away at St Arnaud
SONG Sung Blue is the next movie ready to grace the screen at the St Arnaud Cinema this week.
This movie is a portrayal of the true story of two talented entertainers Mike and Claire Sardina.
They form a band singing the songs of celebrity performers such as Neil Diamond and others.
The couple tour the towns in the state of Milwaikee in the USA.
Mike and Claire’s wish was to change the lives of ordinary people for the better.
In their early years together, the couple forms their band called Thunder and Lightening and their performances from 1989 to 2006 were not only popular in Milwakee, but they were well attended in Chicago and other larger cities.
The two prominent places they played were at the Wisconsin State Fair and Summerfest, where they joined other leading bands and artists.
Along the way, they face many setbacks.
Mike is a returned Vietnam veteran who has real-life issues, and Claire has to adjust to challenges of a lower leg amputation after a car accident.
This movie features star performances by Hugh Jakcman, Kate Hudson and a cast of other great actors.
There will be a screening fundrasier for the St Arnaud Community Cinema on February 6 at 7.30pm. Cost per person is $18.
