All class as pacer procures Park prize

THE Charlton pacer Bizzness Class made a welcome return to form for the Gadsden stable when it won a heat of the Park Douglas Printing Pace on the first night of this year’s Mildura Cup carnival.
And its chances looked great for the final when the gelding drew the coveted number 1 position.
Unfortunately, the $2.10 favourite made a mistake shortly after the green light came on and appeared to gallop its way out of contention.
Driver Luke Dunne hadn’t given up though and aided by the leaders setting an extremely slow pace he and Bizzness Class were able to tack onto the back of the field within a lap.
Still last of the pack, leaving the back straight ,horse and driver attempted to weave their way through the field but to no avail.They were held up and unable to get a clear run to the finish to be beaten 4.5m into third position.
Stablemate To The Nines ran a creditable second in another final earlier in the night being beaten 1.8m by the Ros Rolfe trained and driven Dallas Mike, who has now won four of it’s last five starts.
There were no races programmed for the faster class trotters in Victoria last weekend, allowing the Chris Svanosio stable from Romsey to take two trotters to Menangle, NSW to race.
Gotfeelingsyouknow, part owned by Rod Wilton, was driven by his usual driver Ross Payne and led early from barrier five before taking a sit until well into the straight.
He charged into the lead and was too strong at the finish rating 1.57.4 for the 2300-meter Bubba Gump Pest Control Trot.
The steward’s report pertaining to the final of the Pleasant Creek Plate at Stawell on Good Friday makes for interesting reading.
Although nothing the TAB has done since it was sold off by the Kennett government in 1994 should surprise anyone their efforts that day were a wee bit different. The race was advertised as being of two heats with the first five finishers in each heat.
Plus the fastest sixth qualifying for the final scheduled to be run as the last race on the programme.
The Harness Racing Victoria’s Racing Office subsequently notified the TAB of the confirmed field, and Stewards verified all driving engagements.
Subsequently, stewards identified that the TAB had published a field of 10 runners for the Final.
Enquiries with the TAB established that, due to a system limitation at the time of programming earlier in the week, only 10 starting positions had been allocated.
The TAB was unable to rectify this issue within the required timeframe despite further technical consultation.
Stewards directed that the TAB either amend the field to include all 11 runners or reprogram the race accordingly, however, were advised neither option was achievable.
The TAB further indicated that, should the race proceed with 11 runners, wagering would not be conducted on the race.
Having regard to these circumstances, and following consultation with owner/trainer Stephen Clarke, stewards determined that the race would proceed with a field of 10 runners.
Accordingly the fastest sixth, Foregone Conclusion NZ was withdrawn from the Final.
Just to mix things up a bit this week it’s Melton on Wednesday and a rare Bendigo meeting for metropolitan stakemoney on Saturday.
