All abilities swim kicks off in Donald
After an extremely hot week, participants from MacCallum Day Services in St Arnaud, Woodbine Warracknabeal and other local community members all enjoyed their morning in the sun in the first of four weekly sessions.

ST ARNAUD residents made a splash at Donald’s all abilities swimming program last week.
After an extremely hot week, participants from MacCallum Day Services in St Arnaud, Woodbine Warracknabeal and other local community members all enjoyed their morning in the sun in the first of four weekly sessions.
Cert 1V fitness instructor Meg Tonkin once again juggled her work timetable to be available to facilitate the sessions alongside Donald High School staff member Anthony Tatchell and six Year 11 students and Helen Amos and Leonie Spencer from the Donald Dolphins group.
Mallee Sports Assemblys Rhonda Allan, who organises the sessions, said it was important that events such as these are supported and continue.
“Water exercise is a great way to become fitter, feel better while doing non-weight bearing activities,” she said.
“We are so lucky to have people like Meg in our area that can facilitate these sessions.
“Meg facilitated a fun, no pressure session which was back up by inspirational and motivating music.”
Mrs Allan said the sessions were open to anyone of any age and ability.
“The sessions include a lot of fun and laughter, very social and has a laid-back environment to enjoy the water and the many benefits of a wide variety of exercises.
“Each class is aimed at increasing or maintaining mobility and flexibility and overall health and wellbeing.
“All ages, abilities and fitness levels are catered for, and you always work at your own level.
“There is even a hoist available on site for those participants who require assistance to enter and leave the pool which opens “more doors” for participation for others who have limited mobility.
“No exercise or swimming experience is necessary, just comfortable swimming attire, a towel and a smile.”
The sessions take place from 10.30am to 11.30am on Wednesday, Febraury 11, 18 and 25 at the Donald swimming pool. Cost is $10 per session.
This program is an initiative of the “Access for All Abilities” program, funded by Sport and Recreation of Victoria and supported by the Buloke Shire Council.
