THE Under 14B match between Charlton and Wedderburn was tightly contested from the opening whistle, with both teams creating plenty of scoring opportunities.

Lily shot accurately for the Navies, helping keep the scoreboard ticking over in an even first quarter.

The defensive combination of Marlly, Charlotte and Molly worked tirelessly in the second term to keep the Navies in the contest, particularly as the goalers were restricted to just a single goal for the quarter.

The Navies controlled much of the play in the third quarter, with intercepts being taken all over the court.

Yazmin was outstanding through the centre, collecting four intercepts for the term.

After settling into several positional changes, the Navies finished strongly and closed the margin late, ultimately falling just one goal short in a highly competitive game. THE Navies’ Under 14A attacking line began strongly, converting from each centre pass with some excellent open play.

Sophie and Marley also combined well defensively, picking up intercepts through the midcourt that were capitalised on at the post, helping the Navies to a six-goal lead at quarter time.

The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with Marley, Arlie and Sophie all taking multiple intercepts, while the attacking circle opened up for Rosie, who shot accurately under the post.

Wholesale changes were made heading into the third quarter, but the momentum continued.

Rosie led the attack from the centre position, while Marley made the most of her opportunities in goals, missing just one attempt for the quarter. Bendigo Bank Best: Marley M, FHN Ladies Auxiliary Coaches: Lily L, Caffeinated Chaos and Nutrien Ag “Have a Crack”: Rosie F

CHARLTON’S attackers in Under 17s worked hard throughout the game and created plenty of opportunities, but were unfortunately unable to capitalise under the ring consistently throughout the game.

The whole team applied strong defensive pressure across the court and defenders worked tirelessly all game.

THE Charlton C Grade team did manage their highest score so far for the season.

Charlton’s defensive end stood up well to the challenge with a new combination of Tahlijia Sheahan and Ellie O’Connor in the defensive circle creating plenty of turnovers.

Tahli Roberts held strong in the goal ring and went on to score 27 goals for the game. Taylah Boyle settled well into the C position making a good connection with Emily Olive in the WA.

B GRADE put together a strong performance against top-of-the-ladder Wedderburn, starting well and trailing by just one goal at quarter time.

Wedderburn built a lead through the middle quarters, but Charlton continued to work hard and never dropped their heads, hoding the final margin to 11 goals. The defensive unit worked tirelessly as they do each week, with Holly Thompson showing great strength in GK. Nat Dawson returned from injury and providing calm, smart feeds.

A GRADE hit the court this week ready to improve from their first round match against top of the ladder team.

Chloe Walsh held strong in GS for her second game of the day proved to be a great target for our attackers with Yas Thompson (GA) moving through the ring to provide a strong second option.

Once again Claudia Lee (WA) and Ash Bowen (C) working well to hit the circle edge, with Megan Bruns (best on court) causing havoc in the defensive end getting plenty of turnovers. Despite the result, it was clear to see the Navy girls wanted to fight until the end.
