St Arnaud 100 Years Ago - 7th – 13th April 1922

State Ministers Visit St Arnaud The Hon J W Pennington [Assistant Minister of Agriculture in the State Cabinet and M.L.A for Kara Kara] and the State Treasurer Mr McPherson arrived by train on Friday afternoon. They were shown through the High School before attending a civic reception in the Mayor’s Room at the Town Hall, followed by a banquet in the evening. On Saturday they travelled to Donald to inspect the Freezing Works. On Sunday the visitors toured the hospital, and had dinner at Mrs Lawrence’s Farmers Hotel before attending Hospital Sunday in the Borough Gardens. The St. Arnaud Band marched from the weighbridge to the gardens where they entertained the large crowd who listened to the various speeches and donated £160 to the hospital.
