EDITORIAL: Show me the money and unpack the budget
'Show me the money’ Tom Cruise yelled in the movie Jerry Maguire and we agree. We want Northern Grampians Shire Council to do exactly that … show us the money, show us the money. The budget that everyone of us contributes to by way of our rates is out for comment and took all of five minutes to be approved by Council for community consultation with little elaboration and now the community have until 20th June to comment on it. Some community members with varying degrees of financial training have attempted to get a handle on it and we, and some that have contacted us, have all decided that it is too difficult. What we want is communication from Council on the detail of what is going to be spent and, as importantly, where it will come from.
