EDITORIAL: Land planning zones are often spanners in spokes
BALLARAT is currently in the midst of an rocketing surge in development, that is both commercial, industrial and residential and an article in the ‘Ballarat Courier’ last week focused on whether the planning system that was aimed at ensuring the city’s sustainability, its infrastructure and the best social outcomes, had somehow failed that test. The writer questioned whether some of the city’s quality of life has been lost to the development frenzy. Although the ‘development frenzy’ does not really impact on the towns is this district, because developers are not knocking on the local council’s doors to take on big projects, however, our local council Northern Grampians Shire, is currently examining St. Arnaud – its boundaries, its zoning and seeking input from residents.
